LEEDS, UK 8th November 2005 - As the largest Ingres services
provider in the UK, Luminary Solutions welcomes the launch of the new Ingres
Corporation that was spun out of Computer Associates yesterday. Ingres Corp.
has taken the development, support and services teams, along with the rights
to sell the full line of Ingres products.
Mike Prollins, Chairman of Luminary, who is also a former chairman of the UK
Ingres User Association and the Worldwide Association of IUAs, comments: "We
believe that this deal has great potential to increase the marketing focus
and investment in Ingres, and thereby increase the user base, which will be
good news for all users. During its 10 year stewardship of the product,
it was clear that Ingres was never a strategic product for CA, and while CA
continued to develop the database as a foundation for its other products,
it never made active efforts to market and promote Ingres as much as
its users and partners wanted.
Customers who exploited the technology for mission critical business applications
have always been very loyal and committed to its key strengths and advantages,
even though Oracle and Microsoft - whose products weren't as strong at the time -
did more to bring other application vendors onto their databases. Recent CA
comments have cast a further cloud over users' confidence that CA would continue
to invest in the technology.
Ingres Corp. will be able to shed many of these image problems, and will have
none of the associated barriers to success. They have a singular focus on this
one technology set and will have every incentive to market and promote it, and
to continue to invest in the technology.
Luminary welcomes this news, and had a very productive meeting with the new
management team shortly after the announcement yesterday. We talked about key
topics like continuity of support for customers, plans for future product
investment, and building an even stronger relationship."
"Continuity of support, relationships with our partners and building on the
incredible community we already have, are all very important to us", said Dev
Mukherjee, Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Business
Development, "I strongly believe we are the best-capitalised Open Source database
company on the planet". He added, "I'm very excited about the significant
investment in product development and marketing activities that this is going to
allow us to make."
Neil Warnock, founder director of Luminary commented: "This is excellent news.
Our immediate focus is on supporting the existing customer base during the
transition period, but we are really looking forward to partnering with Ingres
Corporation to exploit the growth opportunities that this buyout presents."
