LEEDS, UK 29th September 2003 - Luminary Solutions was launched
today, 29th September 2003. This new systems integration company
combines existing corporate systems to produce new, integrated
applications delivered to multiple display technologies - such
as browsers, PDAs and mobile phones.
The template architecture developed by Luminary ties together
different data sources and application sources and presents it
to new back office and mobile interfaces. The architecture provides
secure and efficient access to underlying databases and applications,
whilst existing operational systems remain unchanged.
In addition, the company is working with Computer Associates
(CA) in the UK, to provide
services to the installed base of Ingres RDBMS and OpenROAD
customers.
Luminary has been founded by Neil Warnock, an 18 year IT services
veteran with an outstanding track record in IT services delivery.
Warnock was a founding Director and a major shareholder in the
UK based Apertus Systems Limited, a specialist supplier of services
to the Ingres marketplace. Apertus was acquired by CA in 2000.
Warnock then worked in International Research and Development
within CA and was elected to the global Office of CA's Chief Technology
Officer based in Islandia, New York.
With the full co-operation of CA, Warnock is now repeating his
success with Apertus by setting up a company initially with six experienced
integration specialists and an extensive part time contract resource
pool. Luminary will both address the Ingres services marketplace
and leverage the new business opportunities presented by mobile
and other thin client technologies. For this to succeed, the integration
of disparate legacy data sources is key.
"We are particularly interested in providing services to major
organisations to deliver new business applications on new devices
whilst maximising their investment in current IT infrastructure"
said Warnock. "Businesses want the benefits afforded by new display
technologies and supporting applications today, but are no longer
prepared to risk --- nor pay for --- a major systems re-engineering
programme. Return on investment must be rapid and absolutely certain.
The ability to tie together and expose existing data sources and
disparate operational systems without a major system rebuild is
key. Our supporting methodology, frameworks and templates de-risk
the whole process".
This builds on the leading edge work Warnock has undertaken within
CA in the areas of data integration, application servers and display
technologies.
"The post Y2K, post 'dot-gone' industry lockdown is lifting.
To remain competitive, businesses are finding they can hold off no longer.
Now is the time to implement new systems from old, and deliver
functional integration of established data repositories for delivery
to modern display devices. Mobile enablement of existing back
office corporate data can increase the speed of existing business
processes tenfold" commented Warnock.
CA welcomed the addition of this new partner. Chris Miller, Senior
Vice President said "CA welcomes this new addition to its thriving
set of partners. We have seen the work that Neil and his team
can do - they add value where it counts. I am sure CA's Ingres
customers also welcome this strong addition to the Ingres Community.
Ingres continues to be a vital part of CA's portfolio and the
synergy with Luminary's systems integration and mobile deployment
capability is clear".
Warnock's team consists of high calibre IT professionals with
a proven track record of delivering high ROI solutions across
all industry segments. Luminary plans to expand to ten permanent
technical staff within months and is targeting a overall size
of 20 by the end of next year.
