Ingres Announces New Developer Bundle for Eclipse Users

Developers to Easily Innovate and Build Applications on Industry’s Leading Open Source Database for the Enterprise

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., February 7, 2007 - Ingres Corporation, the leading business open source database company, today announced the availability of a new Ingres Eclipse Bundle for Java developers worldwide. The new bundle contains all of the components needed to successfully build and deploy next-generation applications with Eclipse, a popular open source development framework, on Ingres 2006, Ingres’s latest release of its open source database.

“Our goal was to provide developers with a platform for rapid innovation. By bundling together all of the required components, and incorporating our own enhancements to the Eclipse Data Tools Project, we have made it extremely easy for developers to become productive immediately with Eclipse and Ingres. All they do is simply unpack the bundle onto their system, fire it up, and immediately get a fully functional version of the Eclipse framework ready to integrate with Ingres 2006,” said Emma McGrattan, senior vice president of Engineering at Ingres Corporation. “This bundle includes everything you need to quickly develop applications in the Eclipse framework. And when it comes to deployment, the beauty of Ingres is that it can scale from the developer’s desktop to the largest servers that power the enterprise.”

“We gave the Ingres Eclipse DTP plug-in with Ingres extensions the once over and give it a strong thumbs up,” said Neil Warnock, managing director at Luminary Solutions. “It not only demos well, but is a good thing to have in the application developer’s tool kit. The DTP provides some features that exist in VDBA and isql, adding solid new features for application developers such as support for querying of data. In particular, the ability to run SQL statements by highlighting the statement text, direct editing of table data and DB procedure code, and the ability to execute and get results from row producing DB procedures are great additions.”

Developers can immediately download the Ingres Eclipse Bundle from the following site: http://ingres.com/downloads/prod-comm-dev-tools-download-form.php

As part of the bundle, developers will receive:

  • Working system of Eclipse Framework with Ingres Eclipse Data Tools Project (DTP) plug-in
  • “How to Get Started” with Ingres DTP including screenshots and step-by-step instructions
  • Source code for a feature-rich demonstration that developers will find useful in getting started with Eclipse and Ingres

The Ingres DTP plug-in extends the Eclipse DTP by providing functionality specific to Ingres including:

  • Ingres Connectivity
  • Ingres Schema Support
  • Ingres Database Procedure Support
  • Ingres SQL Syntax (SQL Editor, Stored Procedure Editor, Trigger Editor)

About the Eclipse Framework (EPF)

The Eclipse Framework is an open source Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that is managed by the Eclipse Foundation. It provides an extensible framework for software development, whereby plug-ins supply the IDE additional functionality to work with a broad set of development platforms, applications and programming languages including Java, PHP, business intelligence and reporting tools, and web tools platform. Each plug-in leverages investment in the platform by conforming to the overall “look and feel” of the Eclipse Framework.
